“As far as I know, the UPL has two offers to buy TV rights. Megogo offered 100 thousand dollars a year to all clubs – that’s about 4,5 thousand dollars each. And Setanta offered 1,5 million, minus going to the UAF, that’s 60-70 thousand dollars per club.
I don’t see this as anything other than a handout. I believe that clubs should have the dignity and show their stand. If tomorrow our club will vote for something, it’s only for the TV pool of free broadcasts of matches for the Ukrainians.
I understand that now it is difficult for media platforms to pay money for the Ukrainian championship, and that the clubs need a livelihood, but such proposals are nothing more than a handout. Soccer club “Ruh” certainly will not participate in this farce. This is our official position. We know our worth.
So I encourage all clubs to refuse such offers and give up the right to broadcast for free to the national channels. Let people watch soccer and enjoy it. When clubs in England for 3 years refused to pay for broadcasting and showed soccer for free, which raised the interest among the fans. Now the broadcasting rights cost more than 5 billion per season. I think we need to work in this direction.
